We see a lot of familiar plants growing in Costa Rica that come to the USA potted as houseplants, but there they can be as tall as a house (note the building and ladder next to the plant in the first picture). Many properties are landscaped with fruit trees and perennials like the perennial pepper plant in the last photo on this page.

Amapola
